Yamato Aikido International was founded by Murat Aktas Sensei in Perth 2009. “Yamato” meaning individual kanji are 大 meaning “great” and 和 meaning “harmony” basically meaning Great Harmony.

Yamato Aikido International is a traditional Japanese martial art that is a harmonious blend of Judo, Jujutsu, Karate and Kenjutsu and bases its teaching on the principles of mutual aid and prosperity, as well as the best use of energy.

Yamato Aikido encourages all students to maintain purity of technique and martial spirit. The focus of Yamato Aikido is to train students in basic fundamental such as Taisabaki, Tehodoki, Nigirigaeshi with a solid foundation, using throws, grips, strangleholds, joint-locks, and groundwork.

In practising Aikido students are encouraged to maintain standard rules of etiquette on the mat. The enjoyment of training is enhanced by a positive and enthusiastic spirit, a high standard of dress and behaviour and respect for all other students.
